The Best St. Patrick’s Day Doughnuts

I wanted to try my hand out at making doughnuts for a while now, but I just never seemed to find the motivation or time to do it. Not too long ago, I bought a doughnut pan and it sat in storage for a while until I came across these Valentine’s Day doughnuts by The First Year Blog. They looked so perfect and inspired me to try my own variant for the next holiday coming up–and that’s how I ended up making these St. Patrick’s Day doughnuts!


These doughnuts are super easy to make–and this is a guarantee because if I can make them, anyone can!–and also very delicious! The consistency of the dough is the perfect density and the icing adds just the right sweetness so that these treats aren’t too sugary. Kids and adults will both love these!

I changed the recipe slightly in order to yield 10 doughnuts instead of 6, but you can make as many as you’d like! Here’s all you need:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 6 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 175 mL milk
  • 2 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 6 tbsp vegetable oil

And for the glaze on top, all you need is 1 cup of candy melts (I had green ones) and 1 tbsp margarine/butter.

  1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F and use a cooking spray on your doughnut pan
  2. Mix all the dry ingredients and wet ingredients separately
  3. Combine the ingredients until everything is well mixed
  4. Pour the batter into a ziplock bag, cut the corner off, and pipe the batter into your pans
  5. Bake your doughnuts for about 10 minutes


Once the doughnuts cool, you can make your glaze. Combine the butter with the candy melts and microwave them in short bursts until it’s melted. Microwaving 10-15 seconds at a time is good, and make sure to mix the ingredients in between. Pour the glaze into a shallow bowl and dip the doughnuts halfway through. Let them drip upside down to get rid of the excess glaze and then let it sit so the glaze can firm up.


I added edible gold glitter onto my St. Patrick’s Day doughnuts to make them more festive! If you want add similar decorations, make sure to sprinkle them on top of the doughnuts immediately because the glaze will harden quickly. There are tons of ways you can decorate your doughnuts; this is just one idea for you!
